Hi, Janet, My niece descends from Jordan Tapley father of Josiah S. Tarpley. He changed his spelling after his father's death. He was married to Lucy Thaxton and was in Itawamba Ms. in 1860 and in 1870 was in Hale county, Ala. After Lucy died after the birth of Eugne T. Tarpley, he and Eugene went back to Tallapoosa for a few years and then Josiah remarried and went to Talladega. He and his wife sarah F. (Patterson??) had four or five children one of whom was Major H. How are you connected? Would love to hear from you. I am assisting my niece in researching her Tapley lines. Bettye
This is probably a long shot but in genealogy, sometimes that is all that we have. My grandfather 's name was James Bailas Hughey TARPLEY Cooley. He was an only son and parents wanted him to carry all family names. I have linked all names except TArpley. They too,(COOLEY'S) settled in Randolph Co., Alabama. Also, one of my grandfather's uncles was named JORDAN. Do you think there is a link here? All help is gretly appreciated in piecing together this puzzle.Thank you.D H |
