Trying to find parents, sibs, etc. for Louella or Lou Ella Harris b 9-1855 in Greenville, Meriwether Co., GA. Gladly share info.
I have a Luella Malinda Harris (b. c. 1854, Meriwether Co., GA)in my line. She was the youngest child of Charles B. Harris (b. c. 1807, GA) by his second wife Maria J. Harris (b. c. 1813, GA). Please contact me for additional info if you think this is the same person.
Gerry,Elizabeth Williamson Harris is a puzzle but will share another Williamson with you. Archer Harris, son of Michael Harris, had a daughter Olive. Olive married Greenville Nicholson probably before she was twenty. Everywhere her name is written , it has the Williamson name after the Olive. I don't know if this is her middle name and Harris her last or if she were widowed before marrying Greenville Nicholson.Archer Harris also had a son , Michael, who married Nancy Talley., and they had a son, Spencer Coleman Harris who married a Susan ? (might be Nicholson) and they had Elizabeth Williamson Harris who married Joshua J. Nicholson, who was the son of Greenville Nicholson's brother, Etheldred Harris Nicholson. I believe the Williamson name is handed down in both Green and Etheldred's grandchildren or children's names. Somehow I believe we are working on the same Williamson name.I don't think the Williamson name would be passed on from a first marriage for Olive and I don't find any children if there was a first marriage. When I can get to the library , I will check on Greene Co., Ga., for you and see what I can find.Hope this makes sense.By the way these Nicholsons are also from Warren Co., N.C.Barbara
Thanks for the information. Williamson as a woman's given name has been repeated in the Robert Harris line out of l600's in Isle of Wight. Robert was a brother of Edward Harris. This name continued at least until late l800's and as a descendant of Robert and Edward, I am trying to figure why
they continued to use this name. Thanks again.Barbara BARBHENS@aol.com (Apr. 2003)
firstname.lastname@example.org have another candidate for Elizabeth Williamson Harris--Wilmot's first child. Wilmot was married 1 Jan 1799, and by the 1800 census had 1 daughter. Elizabeth was born 31 August 1799. And of course he was in Greene county at the right time. The children's names go better with Walton's family, but they could have been admired older cousins or something. I'll keep plugging on it. >Elisabeth's gone home--missed the hurricane, which looks as though it might not be so bad, despite all the hype. I'm tired--we drove back from Charlotte, where she played a concert, late Monday night, and I haven't recovered. >more later >Dale
From your postings on Gen Forum, it seems that you are well informed about the different Harris families in the Greene, Putnam, and Hancock counties of Georgia. I have looked for years for the parents of my ancestor, Narcissa Harris, who married Benjamin Robertson in 1815 in Greene County, Ga. They are listed in the 1820 Putnam Co. census, the 1830 Montgomery County, Ala. census and the 1850 Noxubee County, Ms. census. From the 1850 census, I know that Narcissa was born ca. 1798 in Ga. In 1830, Benjamin Robertson is on the same page of the census as Chappell Sledge. From the internet, I have seen that Chappell Sledge married Jane Jeter Harris and they had a daughter, Narcissa Whitfield. Do you have any information that could verify that Narcissa Harris Robertson was the daughter of Absolem and Clara Jeter Harris? Any information will be appreciated. Linda Jensen email@example.com
