Notes  "Harris History", an 8 page summary by Lanny Cauthen, 405 Brenda Lane, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214, Dec. 30, 1978. The following is paragrap h III.A. of pages 4-5: A. Edward Harris-born about 1660-63 and married Mary Turner, daughter of John Turner about 1685. Edward made his will in Isle of Wight Co. , Va. on April 27, 1733, and it was probated March 25, 1734. He stated he was from Upper Parish in Isle of Wight. He left to son Edward, "land adjoining John Johnson and John Turner, being land which was granted to my father, Thomas Harris; son Jacob, land on the Flatt Swamp of the Meherrin River; sons Nathan and West Harris, the land granted me on the north side of Warwick Branch; son Daniel, daughter Ann; daughter Martha Williamson; son James; wife Mary. In the Name of God Amen I Edward Harris of the Upper Parish of the Isle of Wight County being in perfect Mind & Memory and calling to Mind the Mortalilty of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to Die: do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament: Committing my Soul to the Almighty God and my Body to ye Earth and as for my Worldy Estate which hereafter is expressed: I Give Devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form (Viz.) : Imprimis I Give and Bequeath unto my loving Son Edward HARRIS Two Hundred & forty Acres of Land lying in the Isle of Wight County joining upon John JOHNSON and John TURNER their Land it being a tract of Land granted by Patent to Thomas HARRIS my ffather to him and his Heirs and Assigns for ever.
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my son Jacob HARRIS one tract of Land granted to me by Patent containing One Hundred & Ninety Acres lying in the Isle of Wight County on the flatt Swamp on Meherin River to him and his heirs and Assigns for ever.
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my two Sons Nathan HARRIS & West HARRIS Two Hundred and fifty Acres of Land granted to me by Patent and lying on the North side of Warwick Branch and joining to the Plantation whereon I now dwell: to be divided between them Both (Viz) Nathan the Upper Part and West the lower Part to them and their Heirs and Assigns for ever.
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my Son Daniel HARRIS the Land & Plantation whereon I now dwell containing by estimation Two Hundred & fifty Acres more of less to him and his Heirs and Assigns for ever.
Item I Give & Bequeath to my Daughter Anne HARRIS the ffeather bed which she usualy lyeth on and the ffurniture thereunto belonging and two Pewter Dishes and one Linnen Wheel:
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my Son Nathan HARRIS: one ffeather Bed and the furniture thereunto belonging and One Gun and one small Iron Pott and one Sword.
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my Son West HARRIS the ffeather Bed that he usualy lyeth on himself with the furniture thereunto belonging and one Gun and one Iron Pott and one brasse Kettle and one Chest.
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my Son Daniel HARRIS the ffeather Bed that I usualy lyeth on myself and the furniture thereunto belonging and all my Copper Tools and one Sett of Iron Wedges and one Iron Pott containing three gallons and one Crosscut Saw.
Item I Give & Bequeath my Daughter Martha Williamson one Linnen Spinning Wheel:
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my four sons James, Nathan, West, and Daniel HARRIS all my Pewter: as Dishes, Basons, Porringers, Plates, and Tankards to be equally divided amongst Them all:
Item I Give & Bequeath unto my loving Wife: Mary HARRIS all the rest of my Estate dureing her Life and then to be equally divided amongst my Children that shall be then Living:.
I desire also that The Crop which is upon the Ground at my Death or just made shall be equally divided amongst my Children that shall help to make or bond the said Crop.
I also do Appoint & Ordain my Son Nathan HARRIS to be my only & sole Executor of This my Last Will & Testament: ratifying & confirming This and no other to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have: hereunto set my Hand, and Seal this 27:th day of April: Anno Domini 1733.
