He came to Edgecombe Co NC in 1771..Died in 1781 after Nash Co NC was cut from Edgecombe. He left Orphans Allen,Amos and Abner according to court records.
Abner was reared by William Avent...his brother who joined him in 1777. Joseph and John were operating the well known Avent's Ferry on Cape Rear River which was then the major North South Road from the Mid 1700's until the early 1900's.
William and his wife Sally Ward became prominant land owners in Edgecombe.
These large holdings came to be known as Aventon. WIlliam died in 1811 leaving orphans Elizabeth Frances (Fanny), Francis, Nancy and William. Other Children Janes,Thomas Griffin, Polly,Benjamin Ward, Rebecca Powell,Priscilla Kimball.
All of William's children married and have descendants except William who
drowned in a Fishing Creek.
